Albert Stewart was a non-commissioned U.S. Army officer, attached to the American Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia, when he and his wife were converted. They returned to Liberia as UPCI missionaries in 1983. He oversees the entire work, including village outreach and evangelism. He also heads the Apostolic Relief Services, the relief arm of the UPC of Liberia. Stewart has manifested his love for the saints of Liberia over and over during the continuing civil wars. Even as U.S. Marines evacuated his family with only the clothes on their backs and one carry-on, Albert Stewart chose to stay to look after the church. He later joined his family in Florida and made periodic trips to Liberia as the situation allowed. Eventually the Stewarts were able to return to Monrovia.
